Chicago Police have charged 19-year-old Muhammad Sayadul Boshar with attempted murder after a 14-year-old boy was shot in the neck and critically wounded on a West Rogers Park sidewalk Friday afternoon.
Chicago Police have charged a 19-year-old man with attempted murder after a 14-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded on the city’s Far North Side.

Around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, the 14-year-old victim was riding an electric scooter along the sidewalk in the 6300 block of North Rockwell Street.
The afternoon shooting occurred in West Rogers Park just as local students were walking home from nearby schools.

An armed offender approached the young teenager and opened fire.
Neighbors in the residential area reported hearing up to six rapid gunshots echoing down the block.
The gunman fired directly at the boy, striking him in the neck.

Area resident Mohammed Yasin rushed outside and saw one child yelling on his phone while the victim lay face down on the pavement.
“Two kids. One is on the phone. He’s yelling like he’s getting help, and another kid is laying down on floor face down,” Mohammed Yasin told CBS News.
Local resident Liz Zalewski expressed her shock after hearing six quick gunshots right outside her neighborhood home.
“Unfortunately, I know what gunshots sound like, and it was just six, one after another really fast,” Liz Zalewski told CBS News.
“They’re getting younger and younger, both the suspects and the victims. It’s awful. Where are they getting the guns? How is this happening? Why is it happening?”

Paramedics quickly arrived on the scene and rushed the critically injured teenager to Lurie Children’s Hospital.
Right after shooting the boy on the sidewalk, the gunman turned his weapon toward a nearby vehicle occupied by a 24-year-old man.
The shooter fired multiple rounds into the car, but the 24-year-old driver managed to escape without physical injury.

Area 3 detectives responded to the crime scene on North Rockwell Street and focused their investigation around a blue vehicle parked nearby.
Officers located and arrested 19-year-old Muhammad Sayadul Boshar at 9:38 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Belmont Avenue, less than seven hours after the shooting.

Prosecutors charged Boshar, a resident of the 6200 block of North Campbell Avenue, with first-degree attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.
Boshar also faces four felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle.

West Ridge residents noted the sudden violence was unusual for the area, as local safety data ranks the neighborhood among Chicago’s safer communities.
Boshar remained in police custody pending his formal detention hearing at the Cook County Criminal Courts Building.
