A 63-year-old man remains in police custody with charges pending following a fatal sibling argument on West 83rd Street in Auburn Gresham.
Chicago police officers responded to a fatal shooting inside a residential home on West 83rd Street on Wednesday afternoon.
The violent incident unfolded around 3:15 p.m. in the 1900 block of West 83rd Street in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
Authorities identified the victim as 70-year-old Dorothy Washington, a resident of the block where the shooting occurred.
According to an official Chicago Police Department report, Washington got into an argument inside the home with her 63-year-old brother.
The verbal dispute escalated rapidly when the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire on his sister.
Washington suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the back during the altercation, according to details released by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
First responders arrived at the residential property shortly after emergency dispatchers received calls reporting gunfire inside the residence.
Medical personnel pronounced Washington dead at the scene at 3:25 p.m., just ten minutes after the initial shooting occurred.
