A 24-year-old woman died Thursday from multiple gunshot wounds nearly a week after being shot on a West Side sidewalk.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Shamyra Williams, 24, following an autopsy completed Saturday.
The shooting occurred on September 19, 2026, at approximately 10:25 p.m. in the 200 block of North Leamington Avenue in the West Side’s Austin neighborhood.
Chicago Police Department officers responded to a call of a person shot and discovered Williams lying on the sidewalk.
First responders found that Williams suffered a gunshot wound to her head alongside two gunshot wounds to her right arm.
Paramedics with the Chicago Fire Department rushed Williams to Mount Sinai Hospital, where medical staff initially listed her in critical condition.
Williams succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, September 24, 2026, while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The medical examiner’s office ruled her death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
Detectives have not publicly released information regarding potential suspects or a motive behind the fatal attack.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Area Four detectives continue to lead the ongoing homicide investigation.
