Chicago police arrested 43-year-old Hector Uriostegui approximately 15 minutes after he allegedly stabbed and seriously injured a 32-year-old man on South Michigan Avenue.
Chicago police arrested a 43-year-old man facing first-degree attempted murder charges following a violent stabbing early Saturday morning.
Officers with the Chicago Police Department took Hector Uriostegui into custody on September 26, 2026, at approximately 12:04 a.m.
Arresting officers located Uriostegui in the 3600 block of North Newland Avenue on the city’s Northwest Side.
Investigators identified Uriostegui as the suspect who stabbed and seriously injured a 32-year-old male victim approximately 15 minutes prior.
The stabbing occurred late Friday night in the 2200 block of South Michigan Avenue within the 1st Police District.
Paramedics transported the 32-year-old victim to a local hospital in serious condition for treatment of severe bodily injuries.
Cook County prosecutors formally charged Uriostegui with one felony count of First-Degree Attempted Murder.
Prosecutors additionally charged Uriostegui with one felony count of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and one felony count of Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm.
Uriostegui is scheduled for a formal detention hearing on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse located at 2600 South California Avenue.
Detectives have not publicly released additional details regarding a potential motive or the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
Area Central detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
