A joint law enforcement operation resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old man now facing attempted murder charges in connection with a critical daylight shooting on the city’s South Side.
Members of the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Jerrick Moore on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
Federal agents and local officers took Moore into custody in the 9200 block of South Stony Island Avenue on Chicago’s South Side.
Investigators in the 4th District identified Moore as the gunman who ambushed and critically wounded a 46-year-old male victim on Tuesday afternoon, September 15, 2026.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., the victim was walking toward his parked vehicle in the 8400 block of South Euclid Avenue in the Stony Island Park neighborhood near Avalon Park.
Police report that an unknown gunman approached the victim and opened fire without warning.
The gunman fired multiple rounds, striking the victim six times in his lower body.
The shooter immediately fled the scene on foot before officers arrived in the 4th District neighborhood.
Emergency medical responders rushed the 46-year-old victim to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Medical staff at the facility listed the victim in critical condition upon arrival.
Area Two detectives spearheaded the shooting investigation alongside federal authorities to identify the fleeing gunman.
Following a week-long fugitive search, task force members tracked Moore down to his location on South Stony Island Avenue.
Cook County prosecutors formally charged Moore with one felony count of Attempted First-Degree Murder during a forcible felony.
State attorneys also filed one felony count of Aggravated Battery with the Discharge of a Firearm against Moore.
Moore remains held in law enforcement custody awaiting his next official court appearance.
A formal detention hearing for Moore is scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse located at 2600 South California Avenue.
