The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has received a new canine complex, a sniffer dog facility, donated by the German government.
The new facility, located in Ikeja, Lagos, will significantly strengthen Nigeria’s efforts to combat the drug trade.
During the commissioning ceremony on Friday, September 26, 2025, NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), stated that the modern facility will enhance the agency’s operations and help meet its core mandate.
He praised the German government for its commitment and ongoing support, citing the successful seizure of 74.119kg of captagon in 2021 as a past win aided by sniffer dogs.
According to Marwa, sniffer dogs have been crucial to the seizure of over 17.932 metric tonnes of various illegal substances.
The new complex will provide a better environment for the Canine Unit’s personnel, motivating them to work even more effectively.
Speaking at the event, the German Consul General, Mr. Daniel Krull, said that the success of the NDLEA’s work benefits not only Nigeria but also Germany and the wider region.
He congratulated Chairman Marwa and his team for their successful fight against crime, expressing hope for continued strong cooperation.
