The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is intensifying its fight against illegal waste collectors.
The Waste Investigation, Surveillance, and Enforcement (Project WISE) Ijora-Badagry Team is actively raiding cart pushers along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
These operations aim to stop illegal waste dumping that harms the environment and causes issues like flooding.
LAWMA has warned residents not to use unauthorized cart pushers for waste disposal. Those caught patronizing these illegal operators face prosecution, with penalties including jail time or hefty fines.
The agency urges Lagosians to work with registered Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators for proper waste management.
The crackdown follows reports of cart pushers dumping waste in canals and road medians, worsening environmental conditions.
LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, emphasized that these actions violate the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law. He stressed that the agency is committed to keeping Lagos clean and sustainable.
