A tragic accident occurred early Sunday morning on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, killing at least two people who were returning from Seyi Vibez’s homecoming concert at Tafawa Balewa Square.
Eyewitnesses reported that fans engaged in reckless racing on the bridge, leading to a multi-vehicle collision.
The incident happened around 4 a.m. on August 24, involving several cars speeding and attempting to overtake each other on the rain-slicked expressway.
According to accounts shared on social media, four young men from Agege were among the victims; two died at the scene, while others sustained injuries.
Videos from the site showed overturned vehicles, including cars and possibly a truck, scattered debris, and emergency responders attending to the injured amid heavy traffic.
One eyewitness lamented on X, formerly Twitter, “Why did they race???? Why??? They left the show and started racing on the express, trying to overtake other cars.”
Reports suggest up to four or more vehicles were involved, with some accounts mentioning as many as 10 cars, though this remains unconfirmed.
The concert, which celebrated Seyi Vibez’s achievements, had drawn large crowds, but the night ended in sorrow due to the post-event chaos.
