Police officers swiftly intervened to save a man from a violent mob attack in the Iju area of Lagos State on August 21, 2025.
Authorities arrested Umar Biliaminu around 8:40 p.m. after locals caught him stealing barbed wire from a perimeter fence. During the confrontation, Biliaminu injured one of the residents with a pair of scissors, sparking outrage among bystanders.
The situation escalated into mob action, commonly known as jungle justice, where the crowd began assaulting him. Patrol teams from the Iju Police Division arrived promptly at the scene and rescued Biliaminu from further harm.
Police spokesperson confirmed that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the mob violence. “Jungle justice undermines the rule of law and endangers lives,” the spokesperson stated. “We urge citizens to report crimes to authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.”
