The Kano State Government has announced that it will begin distributing free school uniforms to 796,092 pupils across the state starting today (Monday). The initiative is part of Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration’s ongoing efforts to improve the educational sector.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, the program targets over 789,000 male and female pupils from 7,092 public schools across the 44 local government areas of Kano.
The uniforms are intended to promote school enrollment and ensure that every child of school age has access to quality education, helping to reduce the number of out-of-school children.
Waiya explained that the initiative would provide support to low-income parents who might struggle to afford educational supplies for their children. He also emphasized that this move underscores the importance of education as a cornerstone of the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration’s development agenda.
The official distribution event will take place at 1:00 pm today at the Coronation Hall in Government House, Kano, where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will oversee the process.
