The Jigawa State Government has allocated ₦250 million to tackle the increasing child malnutrition crisis in rural areas. This fund will be used to procure ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF), which is crucial in treating severe malnutrition among children.

Dr. Sambo Shehu, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, highlighted the urgency of the situation during a staff meeting. He emphasized the critical need for intervention to protect vulnerable children and improve their health outcomes.

In addition to addressing malnutrition, Dr. Shehu outlined other key priorities for 2025, including routine immunization, better antenatal care, and improved delivery services. The agency also marked another milestone by handing over a two-bedroom staff house to the Abaya Primary Healthcare Center in Dutse Local Government Area. The housing project, funded by a grant from the Governors’ Forum, is part of a broader initiative to enhance healthcare delivery across the state.

Community members in Abaya expressed their support for the initiative, hoping that the new facilities will help attract and retain healthcare workers, ultimately improving services for residents.
