People Are Talking About Ginger Ale Class Action Lawsuit
A TikTok video has caused reactions after claiming there’s a big lawsuit against the company that makes Schweppes and Canada Dry ginger ale.
The lawsuit is about many flavors of ginger ale, including plain, diet, raspberry, grape, black cherry, lemonade, and cranberry. It says the company lied about the drinks being “natural.”
The video, shared by TikTok user @thelawyerangela, explains that some laws say drinks with artificial flavors must be labeled as “Artificial Flavors.” But these ginger ales don’t have that label. Instead, they say “Natural,” which the lawsuit claims isn’t true.
Why? The lawsuit says the drinks have malic acid, a flavoring ingredient. There are two types of malic acid: natural and synthetic. The lawsuit alleges that these drinks use the synthetic kind, which is made from chemicals like benzene or butane in factories. The video says this makes it clearly artificial.
The lawsuit also claims the company knew what they were doing and did it on purpose. Now, they are asking the company to pay money to everyone across the country who bought these ginger ales.
The TikTok video has gotten people talking, with many asking for the link to join.
On Twitter/X, user @lowkeylise wrote, “ATTENTION BLACK PEOPLE: There is a Class Action Lawsuit for Ginger Ale. Y’all better sign up; this is the closest we are going to get to reparations.”
The tweet has gone viral, racking up over 4 million views and plenty of comments.
One user joked, “Where’s the link! Because I’m drinking it as we speak,” while another said, “After this viral tweet, we all gon wait 8 months to get $2.48.”
Some users reflected on missed opportunities, with one saying, “I knew I should’ve sued when people told me to drink it when I was sick,” and another laughing, “Tell me why I’m drinking a ginger ale while reading this tweet?!?”
