Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen scored a brace to help Galatarsaray to a 2-1 win over rivals Fenerbache to lead them to a semi-final place in the Turkish League Cup on Wednesday.
Osimhen continued from where he stopped for Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers with another match-winning performance for Galatarsaray against Jose Mourinho’s Fernabache.
He opened the scoring with an unstoppable strike in the 10th minute to give Galatarsaray the lead away from home.
17 minutes later, He scored from the penalty spot after Filip Kostic handled the ball in the box to increase the lead to 2-0.
Fenerbache reduced the deficit just before halftime when Sebastian Szymanski finished off a pass from Anderson Talisca.
The hosts dominated proceedings, but they were unable to trouble Galatarsaray in the second half as they held on to seal a place in the last four of the competition.
Towards the end of the clash, tensions flared between the substitutes of both teams, leading to red cards for Kerem Demirbay, Baris Asper Yilmaz, and Mert Hakan Yandas.
The drama continued after the match as Jose Mourinho appeared to pinch the nose of Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk.
Galatasaray will take on Konyaspor in the semi-final on April 22.
Fernabache will turn their attention to the Turkish League, where they currently trail table-toppers Galatarsaray by six points in the title race.
Osimhen has now scored 28 goals in all competitions for Galatarsaray, further establishing his importance to the team.
He has been linked with a summer move away from Turkey, and reports suggest that he is ready to move to the Premier League.
Osimhen played a key role for the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers in March, scoring all the three goals against Rwanda, and Zimbabwe.
